Woodruff Wildcat students return to school for the 2017-18 school year.
Thanks for a great start to the school year. We welcome you as Wildcats!! At our school we have three main goals:
  • That students are safe every day
  • That students feel cared for every day
  • That students learn every day
At our school everything we do helps support these goals. We are committed as a school to meet your students’ individual needs. We know that you trust us enough to send them to us everyday. We will do our best to earn and keep that trust.

"All the best heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary." –Gerard May

Healthy and Happy Habits

This year we are sharing with our students and families the book, “7 Habits of Happy Kids.” Our hope is to share the wisdom and ideas to help our staff, students, and parents be more effective in their lives. Watch for more information and activities attached to this newsletter and each month for you to do at home.

We are involved in a FIT Game study in a partnership with Utah State University. Green permission slips have been sent home with information. The focus is to help our students eat healthier at school.

School Improvement Plan Goals

Our school community (including our School Community Council, teachers, and staff) have made academic and social goals for this school year. These are goals we will be working on the whole year:
  • 100% of our students will grow at least one year or show 20% growth in their written expression.
  • We will decrease our Level 2 Refocus referrals by 10% from the previous year
  • 100% of our students will master 80% of the STEM standards or show at least one year’s growth

We look forward to our students achieving these goals and the personal goals they set as well.

Our School Community Council (SCC) meets every 2nd Wednesday each month at 3:00 pm in the office Conference Room. Here are the SCC dates for this year:
    • September 13
    • October 11
    • November 8
    • December 13
    • January 10
    • February 14
    • March 14
    • April 18
    • May 9

Coffee & Cocoa with the Principal:
This year join Mr. Markworth every 3rd Wednesday from 8:00-8:30 to discuss school issues and have a cup of coffee and/or hot cocoa

STEM Happenings

Woodruff Elementary is a STEM Designated School
There are some exciting things happening at Woodruff with STEM education. Here are a few:
  • Maker Spaces: During the Media Center time each week, students use their creativity in our new maker space. Ask your students or Mrs. Merritt about this exciting addition.
  • STEM Specialist: We have hired a STEM Specialist to teach our students hands-on STEM activities every week.
  • STEM Team: Our school has a STEM Team that is looking at new ways to help our teachers integrate STEM subjects into the school day.
